This is found footage with the occasional musical score to add to the tension. It's also a movie about people in a jungle that jump at jungle noises presumably because they are assuming that a jungle is going to be as peaceful and silent at night as small Illinois town over the Christmas holiday? Or maybe they were just expecting honks and beeps, sirens, and not animals? You don't really get to know any of the characters at all. They are all sort of flat and shallow.
