Everything is here to make this a great horror – a creepy setting, extensive backstory, a strong fan following, but something doesn’t quite hit right. The game is better. This is not as engaging as the Autopsy of Jane Doe, or even other game-adaptations like Exit 8 or Iron Lung. This is more like Five Nights at Freddy's where they try to tack on bits of lore as story and character, and it just comes out flat. And this movie is trying to set up the plot to enjoy a sequel, too. Shame they didn't make the movie itself more interesting. The casting and directing is good enough, the effects are standard, but the plot, writing, the narrative structure, just leaves this feeling dry and boring.
