Yes, I have to confess I came to this expecting very little and got even less. This is really just more of the woke sci fi souffle, that refuses to rise, so why not change the recipe? Based on Discovery's ratings with audiences, it's clearly not an appetising formula. Is there an upside? Visuals are amazing; there's no denying this is CGI at its zenith, but you can't get by on eye candy alone. Nor by recalling actors from successful series from the 1990s. Maybe there's a reason people liked those characters and series; do you think? In summary, more of the usual woke nonsense no one ask…

Really stellar entry point for modern sci-fi fans to fall in love with Star Trek. Being a younger person, I always saw Star Trek as a sort of looming force over the genre, though watching some of its old episodes (mainly of the original series) never really impressed me on account of their shoestring budget and practical effects that, at the time probably were pretty good, but looked amaeture to the modern eye used to so much flasy CGI. The old Star Trek's social commentary also didn't resonate on account of being decades in the past. But this new series really presents Star Trek in its best l…

Read full review →Good start to a new Star Trek series, most trek shows start with a very rocky beginning but this one aswell as strange new worlds seem to buck that trend. Was not looking forward to this show in particular after not enjoying discovery very much but was pleasantly supprised by this one and how good the characters and stories are doing so far. Not everything is perfect about it just like any other trek series I guess. But looking forward to seeing more.
Read full review →This isn't Star Trek it's CW in space, which if they made their own show, I could either like it or just not watch it. Instead they took a successful francise and ruined it. The people involved in this show should never work in entertainment again.

OK, so given my age, this series is definitely not aimed at my demographic. Having watched Trek since the late 1960's, I could live with that to an extent, but the problem is, it's just not that well done either. There is a casual, one might say lack-a-daisical, feel to the whole thing, exemplified by the way Holly Hunter plays her role. She's so laid back as to be almost incoherent, affecting a 20th century hippie style which really doesn't belong here. Other characters, well, they are just there. Then there's the script. Why are we being treated to early 21st century stereotypes, behaviou…
